so, on the one hand, political correctness wants to stick to the facts. p.c. seeks to destroy the childhood fantasizing aspects of reality, the symbolic pre-Oedipal phase which I will mark as the ages 1-4, the period that Freud sees as being heaven on earth. Again, pure Freudians may disagree and call this the latent phase. That's fine. I don't really see any difference.
American Freudians see racism and sexism running rampant in fairytales. Fairytales are a witty comment on myth though. It is a private dream critiquing a public myth. Or are fairytales also myths? It is the myth of children criticizing the myth of adults.
So American Freudians are scapegoating writers of fairytales for being racists and sexists. They want texts that have no racism or sexism. They see racism and sexism as causes of scapegoating, whereas, in actuality, racism and sexism are symptoms of a total lack of personal "conscience."
BUT, if people really want to be offended, they will be offended. If you really want to, you can see racism and sexism everywhere. the word "Man" is sexist because it is means both man and woman. But in the Bible, it says that woman was made from Adam's Rib. This should not offend a Christian at all, but others are offended based on fact.
BUT, p.c. does not simply rely on fact. It is also a fantasizing denial of reality. P.C. also finds statistical analysis of races to be racist because it negates racism and sexism as factors that contribute to the oppression of women. At the same time, it does not really support all women, multiracial schools, because that would be gender and race bias. Technically speaking, P.C. really supports the separation of genders and races so that students will face no racism or sexism. Of course, such schools usually end up being rather mediocre schools.
