I awake. I'm still in the tent. There's someone else in the tent.
-Who are you? What are you doing here?
-I'm preparing you something to eat. Please, be at ease. You're making me nervous.
I look at her. She has long, shiny black hair and she is wearing a kimono. She turns around and puts some rice and miso soup down on a small table.
-You must be so hungry. You've travelled so far.
-Where am I?
-You're in despair.
I begin to eat the rice like a madman. I drink the miso soup in a second.
-Despair? I am seaching for spirituality.
Her dark hair flips back and all I see are two dark holes where her eyes used to be. I let out a scream.
-Are you a ghost or a phantom? Have you come to condemn me to Hell?
Everything calms down again.
-My father plucked them out. He said that I saw something I should not have seen. It's better that I be blind, he said.
-How did you make the food?
-I've done it a million times.
-Thank you.
I feel a little better, but I was still a bit scared. This is a very strange woman with beautiful, long hair and a beautiful body also, but she has these two dark holes for eyes that are horrifying.
-What is your name?
-Daughter.
-Your name is daughter.
-That's what I was always called.
-Are you looking for spirituality too?
-You could say that.
Then she buries her dark holes in her kimono and pretends to cry. She does this for a long time until I lay a hand on her shoulder.
-Do not touch me! You do not know what I have gone through. All men are wicked!
I am touched by her sadness and I want to do something for her, but she feels so distant. What am I supposed to do? This is all too overwhelming for me. Out of desperation, I begin to cry. And once I begin to cry, tears flow out of my eyes like a river. I do not know how long I cried, but I cried for a long time.
-Do you feel better now?
-Yes I do.
-Who were you crying for?
-For you. Your sad story touched me. Your father was a horrible man.
-You were crying for yourself, for all the sorrow that you felt when you were chasing pleasures, not trying to feel any pain.
-You're right. I'm sorry.
-People are selfish.
I'm relieved. She makes sense. She is not some ghost who came out of my imagination.
-So how do I become spiritual?
-You must start by meditating.
