What if the US had
not gone into Iraq? What if
we had put all our resources
into the war in Afghanistan,
strengthened our ties with India,
driven out the Al Quaeda in Pakistan?
Would we be better off now?
Would we have saved lives?
Why is power and truth
never wedded? Why is it
so hard to just say the truth?
Our goals justified our lies...
the opposition was so late in the coming...
the tongue and position
of those who disagreed were buried.
What is it about power
that makes fools of men?
You see men who become rich
avoid his poor friends.
You see men who marry beautiful wives
become intensely manipulative.
You see people who assume positions of great power
become someone less than themselves,
only a part,
losing touch with their reason,
almost an animal inside
fascinated with his environment.
Then, finding the situation overwhelming,
he regresses,
becomes the child who hated all those who bullied him,
flashed his name as his sole protector,
found sanity
only in losing himself.
Why does power eat up
people's morals and reconstruct it into
positioning, strategy, alliances, and personal preferences
disguised as decision.
Where is desire delocalized
but into the mausoleum of power?
We opposed.
