Darkness

Somewhere in the Darkness
Somewhere in the darkness another fear is born,
Lurking in the shadows, reality is torn.
You close your eyes and try to sleep whilst lying in your bed,
Something moves in the corner and fills your heart with dread.
Is it really hiding?
Is it on the floor?
Can't you see it moving?
Look, it's doing it once more.
You call out to your mother and tell her to come quick,
Look, it's getting closer, Mum, I'm starting to feel sick.
It's standing right before me, reaching out a claw,
If I'm really quick, I might make it to the door.
On second thoughts, I think I'll stay right here,
Hiding under the covers because I know it's getting near.
The shadows move all on their own, spinning, jumping, dancing,
Cavorting like a banshee, whirling, twisting, prancing.
Is that a face looking through the window, a shadow on the wall?
Are they really in here, is there anything there at all?
A scratching on the floorboards, a creaking on the stair,
Hurry Mum, come quick! There's really something there.
I'm not really frightened.
I' m not a little kid.
I'm not really scared.
Something moved, I know it did.
Somewhere in the darkness, grows a fear for all time to keep.
But I'm not really worried now, for I've just dropped off to
sleep.
