Many Happy Returns
I saw you in the card shop,
the pleasantries were brief,
you caught my eye and told me
you were management relief.
You moved around from branch to branch
just like a restless bird,
I only had that week to sound
a call that might be heard.
Luckily, the time of year
suited my desire,
so I sent a Valentine
and hoped to light your fire.
Later on, I passed your shop,
at last I went inside,
fearing your rejection -
though pleased at having tried.
My worries were unfounded,
you gave me such a greeting
and in the card you handed me,
proposed a lunchtime meeting.
Now I'm so excited,
you sent your fond regards
and so it seems my love's returned -
at least, it's on the cards.
