Princess Layer
You wear your layers like an animal its fur,
your unconscious dignity, your quiet, eloquent form
provokes the desire for a closer look. You,
a velvet-lidded box of delights,
each fold of fabric of a different weave:
a closely swaddled seven seas of softness
and fingertip longing.
Your gourmet sense of touch results
in motionless cataracts of clothing,
swathing your poise like the precious seconds
of dim smoke which pirouette after a candle has been
extinguished.
Wool and cotton caress each other,
together they hug you, and who can blame them?
Not the silk, which waits its turn around your throat,
contenting itself with your perfume and your skin,
supposing as I do, that never was so charming a package
so beautifully wrapped.
