My Prince of Darkness
The smell and sound of death was all around her, she could not bare the
cries of those being tortured around her. For three days she had been
in that cold dark cell not knowing the reason of her imprisonment. They
had dragged her into a car when she was on her way home taken into the
car and a sudden pain then the black out. She had awakened to the
sounds she had now come accustomed to. What was happening to those
people who were crying their last cries, shedding their last tears
feeling the pain of eternity? Would she end up like them? Would she
join them in the hell they had been thrown into. All she could do was
weep. How many more days before her time would come?
It had been a week now since she had been kidnapped. It had been a week
of counting the days to her death. The sounds of the birds and the
creatures of the night were the only things keeping her in the world of
sanity though she did not know for how much longer she would be able to
keep on fighting. She had not seen a single person since her arrival in
this hell place. Her food was sent down while she slept and it barely
kept her alive. She wished so badly for the company of another human
being, anyone to talk to. She felt so alone in this prison, though the
many cries told her she was not.
In the early hours of the morning Jo woke up with a startle. She had
grown so accustomed to the silence that the sound of what she once knew
to be footsteps made the hairs on her back stand. Had they come to take
her, was it her time to move on to the next world? Jo could not see the
man clearly. She dared move. She did not want to go yet; it wasn't her
time she knew that, surely the man knew that to. As the footsteps got
closer she could see from the shadows that the man was really big. As
he came closer the more she seemed to curl up in her own womb. What was
going to happen to her now, how loud would her cries be, the more she
thought the more her little cell seemed to swallow her up till their
was stillness and the silence returned.
Where was she, had she suffered already? That hadn't taken much time at
all maybe she was lucky and they had made it quick. Jo slowly started
to open her eyes, reality started coming back she felt the cold in her
feet and all that had happened came back to her. She had passed out
when the man came. The heavy breathing made Jo quickly sit up. She was
no longer alone in this prison; that was surely not her breathing. Jo
looked at the cell next to hers. There was a figure in there, another
being. It seemed to be sleeping; there was someone with her now and
only the iron bars separated them. Jo moved closer to the figure it
seemed to be breathing. She went even closer till she could feel the
cold bars were now only her small arms. The figure shifted moving
slightly towards her making Jo move away quickly back to the other side
of her cell. The figure slightly drew back.
"I'm deeply sorry, I did not mean to scare you away. I just wanted to
see you better. I apologise." The voice startled Jo, it was so strong
and powerful and yet it seemed to be harmless and young. Jo moved back
to the figure more cautiously this time. "I promise I will not harm
you." The voice sounded weak and in pain. Jo went even closer but not
far enough to touch the figure.
"Are you ok, you sound really hurt?"
"Just a bit weak, what is your name?"
"Joanne&;#8230;. Joanne Martins&;#8230;But&;#8230;. But my
friends call me Jo&;#8230;What your name?"
"Alex"
The next two days seemed to be centuries for Jo; she had given up hope
off ever being saved. Hours had turned into years for her. She felt
useless, she could not help Alex, as he would spend most of the day
sleeping and the nights groaning. She knew he was in pain they had
probably tortured him before bringing him down, his clothed which
seemed to have once been expensive were now just rags. He had
bloodstains but did not seem to have any wounds.
Alex was not recovering instead it was the exact opposite, Alex was
getting worse. The honest truth to say was he was dying. Jo would shout
with all her might but noone would come. The food was occasional at
times she would go a whole day without food.
"Alex you have to let me near you&;#8230;come closer to the bars so
I can see you better."
To come think of it she hadn't actually seen his face before he always
had it hidden and he seemed to be drawing away from her each time. He
hardly talked anymore; maybe the odd word or two when she was eating
making her eat most of his food. Alex was weak and needed medical
attention that much Jo knew, but how to help him she hadn't got a clue.
Not even with her first aid certificate hanging at home in her small
room, she still felt useless.
Jo woke up with a startle, something was definitely wrong, she swore
she heard Alex scream out, but as she checked on him he was like a
small ball.
"Alex! Alex! Please wake up, talk to me." Jo was desperate now, Alex
was not moving, and she started tugging at his coat, trying to pull him
towards her. He seemed to be resisting but why? Why would he not let
her help him?
"Alex you have to come closer so I can try to help you."
Jo was panicking now, she reached out and franticly started pulling
Alex's coat slowly he moved towards her till he sat up. Jo could see
the small locks of black hair that were covering his eyes. It was
almost grey a deep shade of grey. Alex was very close to Jo now and he
could not help but feel her raging pulse, her heartbeat was drumming so
loud and fast that it was intoxicating. All he wanted to do was feel
that beat, feel that rush of blood, which was being pumped all over her
heart. He wanted to devour her.
"Jo you have to keep away from me, I am only that string but I feel if
you insist on trying to help me you will be putting your life at risk.
I told you once that I did not wish to hurt you and I still do not wish
to so you have to stay away from me."
Alex tried to move away but he was too weak all he could do was rest
his head on the cold bars. Jo was still panicking; what was Alex doing
how could he hurt her in the state he was in? He could barely move yet
he was worried about hurting her.
Jo could not find sleep again, with Alex in agony and noone coming
down to help him she felt she was the only chance Alex had of survival.
Jo tore what was left of her jumper and wet it with what water she had
left with her, so far all he could do was try and keep what seemed to
be a very high temperature down. She kept at it the whole morning and
afternoon, cooling Alex and whispering words, which she hoped he could
hear, words which were supposed to be comforting to Alex and her as
well.
"Alex please don't let go, please don't leave me here
alone&;#8230;Alex please you have to keep fighting." Jo pleaded and
cried now. She reached into his cell and felt his cold chest, he was so
cold and still and she couldn't feel his heart beat. Jo started crying
even more now, he was gone. She traced her finger on his shoulder and
up to his strong cheek. She wept for a friend she had made and lost,
someone who could have made a great friend to her, her last friend. She
trailed her finger over to his mouth unconsciously and with a flash his
hand grabbed hers and drew it to her mouth. He sank his teeth into her
warm flesh; he could feel the warm blood rushing past his teeth, the
scent of her blood and life, the scent of her fear. Alex quickly drew
away and moved to the other end of his cell, what had he done, he had
almost taken this young girl's life. She had done nothing wrong to him,
all she had done was care and worry, and this was how he had almost
repaid her, by taking her life.
Jo was in shock, she could not move. Her arm was still outstretched and
small drops of blood were falling on to the cold floor of his cell.
What had he done to her, had he really just bit her? Was that her blood
on the floor? She stared as the blood splashed on to the floor, it
almost mesmerised her. The fear and pain she had felt was it
real?
"Jo I' m so sorry, I don't know what came over&;#8230;"
Alex was not sure of what he saw in her eyes. He could not sense the
fear that had just been there, the fear that had saved her life. Her
eyes had a sparkle to them now. She was silent just looking at the
blood dripping from her arm. It seemed to fascinate her more than scare
her.
"You are the one who made this happen, you bit me and you were going to
drink&;#8230; are you &;#8230; of course you are or else you
wouldn't have been able to&;#8230;" With that note Jo passed
out.
How was he going to explain to her when she came to? It had been a
dream, but what about the marks on her hands? Alex wished for her to
awaken but he also dreaded having to tell her. This innocent young
mortal he had grown to admire, her strength and courage and her beauty.
She would not accept him, she would not accept what he was just like
the last woman he had let in his life had torn his heart out and cast
it away. To think of it he had grown to like Jo. She looked too
peaceful were she lay, she seemed to be in a place she felt safe as he
watched her small lips form into a small smile. What had he almost
done?
Had it all been a dream, her fingers were sticky and her arm had a
small sting to it. Jo slowly opened her eyes and sat up. Alex was in
the corner of his cell in the dark. Not moving but she could sense him
watching her.
"So that is why you kept telling me to stay away."
Alex waited for her to say more. He waited for her to scream and yell
and curse him but all she did was look at him.
"You live on my blood, you were going to drink my
blood&;#8230;that's what you need to get better isn't it. That's why
you kept telling me to stay away because you were afraid you would kill
me, just like you almost did. "
Why was she not afraid, why was she not screaming for her life asking
for the people upstairs to come and kill her themselves instead of
sending this monster. All these questions were running in Alex's mind.
This young girl excited him. He could not sense her fear, or was it he
was too weak.
Alex awoke the next morning feeling alive. He felt her blood deep
inside him awakening all those places and strengths he had lost. He
could feel the power surging in him. He knew the time had come to make
those who had caught him pay. It was time they knew that he was not one
to be approached in such a manner. As much as he wanted to hurt them he
also felt deep down that he wanted to thank them. For because of them
he had found one who had brought him back in this world. One who had
tamed the beast in him, one who had embraced him. All he had to do was
look in the next cage to find the small young girl who had captured his
soul. Her beauty was even radiant as she slept. She looked so lovely on
that cold floor, so at peace but from what he had been told her life
had no beauty in it. He felt her pain and anger in the words she had
used. She had opened up to him as much as he had opened up to her. Now
he felt it was his duty to protect and care for her till the end of
time. To be honest he had fallen in love with her.
It had been a year since they had esacaped from the cells that had
brought them together. Alex had made each and everyone of the people
there pay. It had been a great reward in the end, their lives had
nourished him and enabled him to access all their files and help
himself settle in this new world with his love. Noone would ever hurt
Jo again noone would ever know that they survived. they had begun a
whole new adventure for themselvesa nd their child. They had just begun
their journey together.
