The World Is Upside Down

The world is upside down, it seems

since the times of COVID-19.

Friends fighting friends and family alike

over presumed wrongs or rights.

Whether you get the vaccination, or don’t.

Whether you wear a mask, or won’t.

It isn’t my place to judge

because, you see, here’s the rub…

In your body the vaccination was just fine.

It is a different story in mine.

In my body it was toxic causing a flare

of diseases already there.

It seems the prevailing thought should be

to keep other safe. Can we agree?

Doing that to the best of our ability

is nothing more than human civility.

Don’t let a virus molecule

roll in destroying all the rules

in which we are fellow human beings.

The problem is all the screaming…

She did this, he did that….

Where the hell are our heads at?

Is the virus simply revealing

what we all have been secretly feeling?

Can we get humanity back on track?

Or has it become a solemn fact

that we can no longer relate

to each other without edging on hate?

Tit for tat, tattle-tell…

Is this the depth to which we fell?

I am not excusing myself

for acting on pain I have felt.

Down the road I hope we can all say

that there finally came a day

that the skies parted and humanity was set right.

Finally restored in the night

is our ability to consider one another

as none other than sister and brother.
