Christmastime

The little girl sat in front of the window;
On a stool clothed in white silk.
Next to her lie cookies,
And a glass of ice-cold milk.
On her feet she rested;
Her toes poking out behind her;
The wooden door was shut;
So nobody could find her.
The lights were very dim,
So she could see her star.
She gazed at it reflectively,
As it glistened from afar.
She did not wish for clothes;
Or for money or for toys.
She wished Santa would bring happiness
To all the girls and boys.
She wished for love and peace;
That everyone could share.
She wanted to end hatred;
And teach people to care.
She was not being impractical
As she wished to end all crime.
She knew anything was possible;
When it was Christmastime.
