Was it Worth it&;#063;

Before you left your mom and dad
You swore you would not drink.
No one would make you, if you said no,
Or at least you did not think;
You could just skip the party,
But then you'd miss the fun.
A lot of people would be drinking,
But, of course, not everyone.
When you arrived at the celebration,
Your methods proved untrue.
All the guests were drunk and partying;
All the guests; but you.
Sure, you wanted to leave
But then they all would laugh;
They'd tease you and make fun of you,
And drink more on your behalf.
Instead, you decided to stay,
And save yourself from shame;
If the rest were caught for drinking,
You still were not to blame.
This choice was a mistake
As were the careless ones before it;
In your heart, you knew this,
But chose just to ignore it.
The minutes passed by slowly,
Till the drunk ones went insane;
They held the liquor to your face,
And threatened you with pain;
They proceeded, then, to beat you,
Forcing toxins down your throat;
They left you passed out on the lawn
And fled somewhere to gloat.
You found yourself in a stiff white bed
With doctors and nurses around you;
You heard your parents sigh with relief,
How lucky that they found you!
You knew you held a partial blame,
Although you kept your vow;
You could see it in your parents' eyes
And felt the guilt somehow.
In time, you would recover
From every physical ache;
But the damage done inside you,
Time could never shake.
In spite of feelings of regret,
You never could reverse it;
One night had changed your entire life -
Was it really worth it?
