He awoke suddenly from his deep sleep. He knew at once what he must do. The mission. Follow the others.
The were many more like him, perhaps millions, all marching in unison towards the launch tube.
He followed them in, and waited patiently. The
huge exit door closed behind them, and the tube started to move, rising up towards its target.
With a sudden jolt, the tube docked at its destination. They marched through the exit, knowing exactly where to go as if by instinct.
As he entered the tunnel, it grew darker and powerful lights on his chest flickered into life.
He could see the enemy now. Some sort of organic life form, frantically trying to protect their home. At once an immense hatred consumed him.
He must kill them. All of them must die.
His thoughts triggered the weapons mounted on his suit, vaporizing the life forms as quickly as they appeared. Flashes of weapon fire lit up the tunnel
as thousands of others did the same.
The tunnel echoed with screams as the invaders easily cut down the weak life forms. Then it was over.
After a quick check that there were no survivors, they returned to the launch tube, their mission complete.
As suddenly as he had awoken, he slipped back into a deep sleep, ready for the next mission.
"These will win the war for us for sure said the professor, as he removed the needle from the dead man's arm. Blood was already seeping from the lifeless eyes.
"Yes, nanotechnology sure has come a long way in the last five years. I just hope they never make it back here replied his colleague.
