Brecht in America

You are still as good as you always were
But how good were you
Spirit soaring and feet of clay
We don't need another hero
To observe is easy
To comment requires sophistication
To defend requires courage
The palm trees stand tall and dignified
Sculpted against the clear blue skies when seen from below
From above they are lost in the yellow smog
Which only goes to show the dangers of flying
Look at it another way
Keep your feet on the ground and always carry a periscope
Believe neither what you see nor what you hear
Only what you understand
Consider the distance with a microscope
Stand back from what is near
Listen to what you look at
Watch carefully what you hear
Don't take it too hard Bert
You did good to show you were human
Less means more
Better to be remembered for your faults as well
Goodness palls but love transcends
Did you keep some of that?
