The Show (a poem from my book, Seasons Come, People Grow)

Look at me now,
As I walk down,
All eyes are on me,
The center of attention,
My long, shiny hair,
Entrancing eyes,
My sexy curves and figure,
Beauteous smile,
Look at me,
Stand up and stare,
Drool as I pose for you,
My beauteous smile, sexy curves, long shiny hair,
The cameras are flashing,
All eyes are on me,
A new star has been born,
I am all that you see,
As I walk off the stage,
An emptiness begins to emerge,
I feel naked and hollow,
When out in the real world,
Disengaged with deep conversation,
Frustrated with academics,
I can't look at myself in the mirror,
Without feeling a lack of self-worth,
Don't look at me now,
As I sit and cry alone,
My body on constant display,
My potential and happiness have been sold.
