Journey So Far

We walked forever
carried carefully by the wind.
We knew not of our destination
but any dangers soon melted
in the lazy yawn of the setting sun.
We stopped at the first milestone
on a hill slopping down
towards the thick wooded forest below.
You turned to steal a kiss but
I sold it you before you had the chance.
And with my breath enriched by you,
the forest took our hands
and enfolded us in its mystery.
Despite its thorns and tangled paths
we reached the other side, wiser.
We fell upon a wheat field
with an old oak tree at its heart.
We were safe there,
we knew we had grown
by the mistakes we made.
Night crept up on us
and gave us the chance
to rest under its stars,
The unknown right before our eyes.
