Rain - A poem for Lil
The drops fell gently that summer night,
As mothers tucked their kids away tight;
And as darkness passed slowly into day,
The drops became rivulets and ran away.
They longed so to stop there and stay
Just a while to be with you and play
With you and get to know you,
And wail with you in tears or in laughter of boo-hoo
Or ha-ha; or just calm contemlation
With pregnant pauses full of recognition.
They longed so but thay longed in vain,
For though they wished with you to reamain,
They had, with great sorrow, regret and pain,
To disapear down the drain.
