Find your voice

Time moves on
You have to develop
Words got stuck in my throat
Thoughts left unsaid
I could nt get started I had nt found the method to develop the voice
No mentor
Only the keepers of the law
The law of silence
Hard to believe now
But it’s hard to find your voice when you ve been told to shut up and listen your whole life
Who wants to listen to you?
What makes you think your worth listening to?
Be more like me
More like your sister
Your cousin
Anyone but who you bloody well are
It’s a cliché
Sounds trite
But it’s also true
Find your voice
Or get you captured your vice
The vice is a trap
And it only gets tighter
Trapped in old habits
Addictions
patterns of action
You need to unlearn
It’s what got stuck in your throat in the first place
That shut up and listen you internalised
So tear though vice of been good
Behaved
obedient
unquestioning
And worst of all silent
Not silent in contemplation
But silent in contrition
if you can
Come out the other end reborn
Not as a blank tablo
But as a scribble
A new way
To express yourself
To expel fear
Break the silence
It’s the thing a writer says
And it’s hard to find your voice
When your whole life
You ve been told to shut up and listen
Tell em your not shutting up anymore

Bravo for that strong, uplifting last verse. I applauded the sentiment. Take charge of your voice, express yourself and do not give a care for those who wish to silence you.
Every writer must find their voice, their truth and it is a journey.
Well constructed poem; the flow from struggle to strength was very well done.
