Educational swimming aid idea: Hydrophobic coated swimwear for children learning to swim
Swim wear coated or partially coated with a hydrophobic substance may be helpful in keeping children afloat when learning to swim.
Note of caution: However, to be honest I’m not sure, without doing any tests, which kind of hydrophobic swimwear would help most in the buoyancy and stability of a child learning to swim and putting the hydrophobic coating in the wrong place might even cause difficulty swimming and staying upright in the water. Perhaps a hydrophobic or partially hydrophobic vest might be the best thing so that it pushes a child’s upper body (torso) away from the water but leaves their arms and lower body free to move through the water.
Also: Newtonian Hydrophobic flippers and gloves for faster swimming –
Another hypothetical idea which may or may not work, but perhaps wearing hydrophobic flippers or gloves would allow a swimmer/scuba diver to swim faster through water by pushing the water backwards like Newton’s 3rd Law “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction”. (Note: One might also coat ship/boat propellers with hydrophobic substance to make them faster for the same reason)
