Rodney Rabbits Counting Trick/ Also: Calendar of Absence
One day Rodney Rabbit was dividing up the carrots which he and his friend Reggie had picked. He told Reggie that he was going to divide up the carrots evenly between them but what he didn’t tell Reggie was that he had devised a cunning way of counting that would result in him having twice as many carrots as his friend.
First of all he said to Reggie:
“One for you and one for me, one for me and one for you. That sounds fair doesn’t it Reggie?”.
“Yes said Reggie”, thinking that it sounded very fair.
But then Rodney began to count out the carrots exactly as he had said he would.
“One for you and one for me and one for me;
One for you and one for me and one for me;
One for you and one for me and one for me…”
Thus Rodney ended up with twice as many carrots as his friend Reggie.
