Say You Haven't Forgotten Me

You used to sit far from me, flashing your unrequited smile my way,
and I'd slump back, pretend I hadn't seen. My eyes would glaze, I would
pray to God that you'd dissapear, relieving my broken and shredded
heart to mend. But it was just your smile, your glorious smile, that
whispered to me from what seemed like miles away.
Day after day, that face, your smile, it created a light in the room
that I couldn't explain. But no one knew. I told no one of it, how it
pounded on my mind relentlessly. Even at night, the lights off, it was
your face that came to my mind. It was your face that constantly
harassed me, that drew me in and threw me back to the ground with it's
harsh reality. You knew nothing of me, and I knew nothing of you. It
was a fantasy, a ridiculous fantasy.
I saw her in your arms, laughing at your jokes, pulling you
tight.
Please remember me! I'd say. I ran screaming after you, pleading for
you not to forget me. I ran until my body ached, but yet you were still
so far away from my reach. One last pathetic cry, "don't you remember
me?" It was shredded now, demolished, never to be repaired.
In my dreams, I see you. I shout, DON'T FORGET ME, REMEMBER ME! You
flash your glorious smile, and take her up in your arms. Even in my
dreams, you remain a fantasy.
