DS BROWN - "Interview commenced at 1:28pm on the 10th March 1994.
Officers present are DS Brown..."
DC HAYWARD "...and DC Hayward."
DS BROWN - "You are advised that you are not under caution, and as such
are free to leave at any time you wish. Do you understand?"
MARK GARDNER - "Yes."
DS BROWN - "Would you please state your full name for the
record."
MARK GARDNER - "Mark James Gardner."
DS BROWN - "And your occupation?"
MARK GARDNER - "I'm a bouncer - well, doorman at the Crypt."
DC HAYWARD - "Sorry, could you explain what that is?"
MARK GARDNER - "It's a nightclub in Hastings town centre."
DS BROWN - "And you were working on the 4th March, which was a Friday,
correct?"
MARK GARDNER - "Yes, that's right, I always work the weekends."
DS BROWN - "And could you describe for me what you saw around about
2:00am on the Saturday morning?"
MARK GARDNER - "Well, I was looking to get everyone out of the club
because it shuts at 2:00am, and while I was hurrying some people up I
saw a girl crying."
DC HAYWARD - "Is this the girl you saw? I am now showing the witness a
photograph of Amy Louise Hunter."
MARK GARDNER - "Yes, it looks like her, yes."
DC HAYWARD - "Thank you. What did you do then?"
MARK GARDNER - "To be honest, I didn't really take that much notice of
her; I was too busy trying to get everyone else out. I did notice that
she was sitting on her own though, which I thought was a bit unusual
for someone that was crying."
DS BROWN - "And was that the last time you saw her?"
MARK GARDNER - "No. After I had walked around the club a few times, I
came back upstairs, and on my way back to the front door I noticed that
she wasn't where she had been sitting before."
DS BROWN - "And what happened then?"
MARK GARDNER - "I went back to my position at the entrance and noticed
her sitting on the floor directly opposite me, with her back against
the wall. She was talking to a man who was kneeling beside her. They
were too far away to hear what they were saying, but she still looked
pretty upset. Anyway, just then I was called inside to help out with
some lads who were fighting, and by the time I came back out she had
gone."
DS BROWN - "That was the last time you saw her?"
MARK GARDNER - "Yes, I didn't really have time to think about her after
that because I was too busy closing up."
DC HAYWARD - "Is there anything else you can think of that might be
useful?"
MARK GARDNER - "Not really. I think I've told you pretty much all I
know."
DS BROWN - "Right, thankyou for your time, Mr Gardner. Interview
terminated at 1:45pm."
