Turn Left Turn Right

Jonah typed furiously at his computer screen while munching away at
his lunch, trying to finish his work early. This would be advisable
because more work would surely be given at the last few working hours.
That's the hard part of being a marketing executive in Singapore, Jonah
thought; all Singaporean bosses are also kiasu(Singapore term which
means afraid to lose out to others or not to lose face.) in giving out
work. Dismissing his train of thoughts, he continued to work until the
clock struck three in the afternoon. With that, he turned on the radio
and tuned it to 99.5 Gold FM, his favourite radio channel. After a
short while he made a phone call to the studio too.
******************************
"Welcome to the 'Love Channel', listeners! I am yours truly, DJ Minkus
and today we carry on our topic:" Do you think love still exists in
this era, or has it been replaced by materialism? " Call now and
express your view now! Ah, we have one now." Minkus said.
"Hi, welcome to the "Love Channel". May I know what is your
name?"
"Hi, my name is Jonah."
"Thank you Jonah, for calling up. So, how do you think about the
topic?"
"I believe that love still exists in this era. Although materialism and
greed has settled in here permanently, I am still one who faithfully
trusts that love will still triumph over others."
"That is a very good answer! And for your reward you can dedicate a
love song to anyone you like. What song would you like?"
"I would like to dedicate the song "If" by Bread to my family, and
those who has the same feelings to love as me."
"Okay, one song coming right up! Thank you for your view, Joanh, and
bye!" With that, Minkus found the song and aired it in the
studio.
"If a picture paints a thousand words
Then why can't I paint you?
The words will never show
The you I've come to know
If a face could launch a thousand ships
Then where am I to go?
There's no one home but you
You are all that's left me to
Then when my love
For life is running dry
You come and pour
Yourself on me
If a man could be
Two places at one time
I'll be with you
Tomorrow and today
Beside you all the way
If the world should stop
Revolving, spinning
Slowly down to die
I'll spend the end with you
And when the world was through
Then one by one
The stars would all go out
And you and I
Would simply fly away?"
After the song ended, Minkus's voice boomed over the radio set. "All
right listeners, lets hear the view of another person. Yes, who is that
on our hotline?"

Jonah hung up the phone, and continued to work. His colleagues often
thought him to be a fool, a person who should have been kicked out of
this generation. As his friend John said, "This is the generation of
one night stand, and multiple girlfriends. Jonah, you should move on
with the trends!" Although Jonah did not support this view, but he did
not argue with John as there is no right or wrong to this sort of
things. One thing he was only sure of was that sooner or later he would
be blessed with a true love, one he would stick to forever. As he
prepared to leave the office, he glanced over his cubicle to make sure
everything was kept tidy. Then he left the door, and headed straight
for home.

Upon seeing that most of her colleagues had left the office, the
thought of her alone in this secluded night was unbearable and Xue Min
hastened to rush back home. As she reached her house, she dropped her
things on the blue, cozy sofa and turned on the radio set. Her
favourite programme was coming up.
"Welcome to the night version of the "Love Channel"! Today, eh topic is
still on your stand of love, so pick up your phone and start calling!"
Minkus the host said. Shortly after the programme was aired, calls came
rushing in and he randomly picked one.
"Yes, is it a listener there?"
A voice slowly popped out, and the conversation started.
"Yes! Finally! ...er... is it DJ Minkus?"
"Yes, that's me. Are you a long-time listener of this channel?"
"Yes, of course! My name is Xue Min, and I listened to every session of
this channel."
"Thank you for your support, Xue Min. Now, what is your view on our
topic?"
"Well, you may call me silly, but I believe that everyone is destined
to have one true and only love which awaits him or her, and love is the
driving force of all successful couples."
"Why, we have about the same reply from one of our listeners called
Jonah today too! You too must have been a perfect match, eh?" Minkus
teased.
" No, No! I don't even know who he is! I..."
"Just kidding, Xue Min. Anyway, the names of you two are rather common
in Singapore, and you may never know who was our good listener this
morning. Anyway, lets get back to the main topic! Thanks you for your
view, and now you can dedicate any song to anyone of your loved ones.
What song would that be?
" I would like to dedicated the song "Don't cry Joni" to all the
listeners out there."
"Okay, your wish is granted! Bye, Xue Min!" With that Minkus played the
song.
"Jimmy please say you'll wait for me.
I'll grow up some day you'll see.
Saving all my kisses just for you.
Signed with love forever true.
Joni was a girl who lived next door.
I've known her I guess ten years or more.
Joni wrote me a note one day,
And this is what she had to say:
"Jimmy please say you'll wait for me.
I'll grow up some day you'll see.
Saving all my kisses just for you.
Signed with love forever true."
Slowly I read her note once more.
Then I went over to the house next door.
Her teardrops fell like rain that day,
when I told Joni what I had to say:
"Joni, Joni please don't cry.
You'll forget me by and by.
You're just fifteen, I'm twenty-two,
and Joni I just can't wait for you."
Soon I left our little home town.
Got me a job and tried to settle down,
but these words kept haunting my memory,
the words that Joni said to me:
"Jimmy please say you'll wait for me.
I'll grow up some day you'll see.
Saving all my kisses just for you.
Signed with love forever true."
I packed my clothes and I caught a plane.
I had to see Joni, I had to explain,
How my heart was filled with her memory,
and ask my Joni if she'd marry me.
I ran all the way to the house next door,
but things weren't like they were before.
My teardrops fell like rain that day,
when I hear what Joni had to say:
"Jimmy, Jimmy please don't cry.
You'll forget me by and by.
It's been five years since you've been gone.
Jimmy, I married your best friend John.""

Xue Min hung up the phone. After so many years her female friends had
always called her "Little Dragon Girl", who was a fictional character
in a novel where she faithfully waited for her lover for sixteen years.
They say she was too old-fashioned? No way! One day she would prove
them wrong, she thought, and that will be when I find my true
love.
The next day, as Jonah went to work, the HDB flat lift's doors were
about to close when someone pressed the button. The door opened,
revealing Xue Min. It was that moment that their love was finally
sealed.
As the door opened, all Jonah could see was Xue Min's long, lustrous
black hair, and her big dewy eyes. NO words could ever describe her
beauty, as he was overcome by a sudden passion for her, and a cecity to
other things.
Jonah also mesmerized Xue Min. Not only was he tall, tanned and
handsome, he seemed to be giving up a kind of aura, a kind of security
to any women that he would love. They were both convinced that a sudden
passion had joined them; such certainty is beautiful, but uncertainty
is more beautiful still. Gazing at each other eyes, they could see the
depths of their eyes implying the deepness of the love at first sight
and the feelings they would feel towards each other for eternity.
However, it was awkward to say out their feelings now, and they dragged
themselves to work. They needed to know each other better, but it was
too embarrassing for two shy people to ask for each other's phone
number, and there was nothing they could do. But their attraction
towards each other was too strong, and they would meet again
later.
Jonah stared at the computer screen, but he was not doing his work, and
was thinking about the woman that had snatched his entire soul, his
life and passion from him. Then the phone rang, interrupted his
thoughts. Rather peevish, he was about to shout at that caller when he
realized it as DJ Minkus. He was there to inform that Jonah and another
caller had been identified as the most sentimental couple, and were to
go to Mt Faber this Sunday morning at six in the morning. As he had
nothing to do, Jonah agreed and beside this, he also wanted to see who
was the female caller.
Six o'clock in the morning showed Jonah walking slowly to the
mountain's peak. It was opened due to the special occasion and he
waited there slowly. Then he sensed someone walking to him. Turning his
head, he saw the most beautiful woman, Xue Min arriving. "How come you
are here?" he exclaimed. The realization dawned on him. She was the
female caller. Without any further thought, he grabbed her hands. NO
further explanation was needed between them; they knew each of them was
destined for one another. Their lips met, and their passionate kiss
lasted until the sun came out an hour later. They got married in the
end, and lived in marital bliss forever.
