I enjoyed your story of a young man drawn into something he cannot handle by feminine promise (not just once, but twice!). He does certainly seem to pick his ladies doesn't he? Or could it be that he is the one who is inadvertantly selecting them...
Do we mean that Valentine was not just about love and romance? I have read some suggestions/history about him in the past, but always forget the detail before the next Valentine's Day comes around. Evidently he was an early Christian martyr in...
An imaginative and amusing leap ten years into the future! I enjoyed that, but whether it is actually going to turn out like that, I am not sure? Maybe if the Conservatives win all the elections until then it could just be!
You are managing to 'sell' Bulgaria very well Turlough, the land of everlasting Christmas Trees, which just keep on growing. Alfred wants to know whether the Bulgarians enjoy sprouts, and whether they grow their own or get them imported from...
Good poem Marandina! You brought me back to the romantic legends of King Arthur and Avalon etc. which I have always enjoyed. I am, in a sense, surprised that tower hasn't blown away, as it was exceedingly windy when I went there some years ago....
I did enjoy this piece. For a few minutes I really thought the American Revolution was not going to happen! That was quick thinking! (The Genesis of a new nation!! Wow!)
Your poem is reminding me a little of Bruce Springsteen's 'The River'. The new year is like the high expectations at the beginning which turns into the river of life as the year (or life!) passes/flows. I like the imagery you have used! Happy new...
I like this poem and how it marries optimism with the regressive effects of the pandemic and decline of our health and social systems. You express the mixed feelings of entering the new year at this time! Happy New Year nonetheless!
I read this to my wife this morning with our first cup of tea in bed, my first full reading of it, and we both enjoyed it. I like the way you have turned Boris into Scrooge with the ghosts of christmases, past, present and future. Mrs Thatcher...
I have suspended my Christmas chill-out to read this contemplative and sad poem! (briefly!) But you do have the feelings of the graveyard here perfectly. We must try to remember our dead as we would hope to be remembered ourselves. It occurs to...
