Seriously?

Recently a new law has been past, I had heard about it, before it had been past but thought it must be a joke, I remember thinking, if this law came into force on April 1st, then no one would do it. But it did become law. I was truly shocked and afraid, afraid of what would happen to me and millions of others, it seemed too surreal to be true, but there was no escaping it, for it involved me. Oh, why did this law have to come into force?

I decided to ignore it, and pretend I didn’t know about it, but each time I went out, and came to that point, I would remember it and it just does not make sense, I can’t get my head around it, it’s crazy! Who seriously sat down and thought of this? Why didn’t they just leave it as it was? It wasn’t hurting anybody. I did wonder, who would be the first person to die from this new law? I hope the death makes news headlines! I just hope it’s not me that causes the death of that person.

Other laws came into force around the same time, but what is this new strange law that has caused me stress and fear?

If I am on a main road, driving my car and I am about to turn left into a side road, and I see a pedestrian standing on the corner, I must stop my car on the corner and let them cross the road! It seems an odd place to stop, for I will have my indicator on and I will have slowed down, so nothing will look different to the driver behind me. What would happen if the pedestrian doesn’t wait for me to slow down, but steps out into the road? What would happen if I suddenly stopped and the car behind me crashes into me?

I’ve heard it said, “This law is to make the pedestrian more important,” But bumping them off like this doesn’t seem to me to show importance, but silliness, to me, my view only, it is like this new law was made up by someone who does not drive!  

And with the new law that has just come into force, for those with a bicycle, now would be a good time to sell it.
