you never really left

Granddad,
I think of you as a ship, that way it’s never really goodbye,
When you can watch the white sail slowly move away
Until it reaches the horizon and fades into the sky
It may have been your time to set sail
But there will always be someone there waiting on the shore
Until the time comes for you to come home again
Because just like a ship, you never really left,
You are lost from my sight but close to my heart
And when it’s my turn to sail over the horizon
It’ll be as though we were never really apart.
Keep smiling, Granddad.
xx

Beautiful piece, Hannah. It genuinely made me feel warm inside reading it. The strength of your affection really comes through.
Thanks.
