TEARS FOR TABITHA

Love is for always my dear little friend,
And the bond that we have cannot sever;
Do spirits return and do broken hearts mend?
Is a lifetime one breath of Forever?
My Tabitha, she was more precious than gold,
But Time is a thief without pardon;
I loved her and cherished her until she grew old,
Then I laid her to rest in my garden.
When the leaves fall do the trees ever mourn,
Does the Earth grieve for one little creature?
If any should die, then another is born,
But the one that I love - I can't reach her.
The Winter will go with the whispering snow
And the Spring will grow green with her promise;
As Love bids the seasons to come and to go
Cruel Time cannot heal me with solace ......
- - - For when the nightshadow rolled over the world
- - - He plundered the life of my treasure.
Beautiful Tabitha, painted and proud
In the amber of time she is captured,
Where tabby-silk patterns glide over the ground
Does she stalk the wind's shadow enraptured?
If I had a time-machine swifter than thought
To the past I would go where I met her;
Though Summer is sweet, there's a stone on my heart,
For I know I will never forget her.
Dear little face and her soft velvet tread,
In the silence of rooms how I miss her!
I laid polished stones all around her small bed
Where the dark Mother Earth came to kiss her.
Is it only Goodnight, or forever Farewell
As the years in their swiftness will carry her?
Till spirits return and till broken hearts mend
The tears of my heart are for Tabitha.
- - - And sofly her footfalls alight on my heart
- - - As her memory still plays in my garden.
