at night

sleep does not come when
the quiet grows calmer
a cage around me
to keep me safe
a wall around me
it keeps me awake at night
at some ungodly hour
I'm in pursuit
of what they'll call
my mis-spent youth
all in the comfort of my own home
the heart in my chest is a siren's drone
when
through a window pane
some lamplight flashes
you. and. I. my. dear. we're. in. different. classes.
our. own.

I enjoyed this. Always great to see poems that aren't anchored to the left. I'm never brave enough to it myself but you're tempting me!
