"Do you see them? Right past the second pillar."
Flint wrapped his slightly shaking fingers around the hilltop of Melanie's bare shoulder as he stared at the unfolding scene.
His touch had always created a soothing warmth in her chest, however, the moment she locked eyes on the solid masses of shadows scarfing down portions of some poor girl's legs, she broke into a shudder that caused her breath to catch in the back of her throat.
"W-what are they...?"
The loose hold Flint had around her frame tightened as the sound of cracking bones noisily emitted from the kneecap lodged between the teeth of the shadow creature closest to the cobblestone pillar.
"Clickers," he whispered thickly.
Melanie Boven Rose has the most flawless lifestyle any senior could begin to dream about. Her parents and her little sister are just as exuberant for her final stretch, but, life in Tallahassee takes a turn that no-one was prepared for. When the sickening, cannibalistic murders begin to appear in handfuls at Ataraxy high, Melanie starts to see things you'd only witness in an all things storybook. With just about the worse timing imaginable, a group of unique individuals enroll for the remaining time at her highschool. Almost instantly, Melanie finds herself drawn to the sincerely charming Flint Gashon and the peculiar effects he has on her unnatural "gifts". The closer she inches to turning 18, and to Flint, the more secrets reveal themselves from not only him and his friends, but, even she isn't sure her parents are so perfect after all. What if her everyday visions had truly occurred? In the horrifyingly intriguing fantasy: "The Awakening", will Melanie reclaim the missing memories she never knew existed, or will the creatures taunting her once peaceful school add her name to the rapidly increasing death toll?
When your entire life is a lie...

I think there's a nineteen
I think there's a nineteen-century novel called the Awakening. I think I've got it lying about somewhere.
