Seeing the Doctor for the First Time

The doctor, black bosomed, sharp of eye

Blushes behind clipboard, poised,

Steadying her gaze

'I know your sister, Julie,' I say

'...she was in my year at school.'

(I had never took much note of her wee Paula, till now.)

'I recall.'  Even her words profesh,

As she staples her collar shut;

To continue my inspection.

'...could happen to anyone.  Don't worry.'

I smile distantly, allowing her space;

Make mental notes to ask Julie for her sister's number.
