When I first breached the sea
my gills gasped wildly,
desperate in air,
tail flailed for survival,
no part of me fit for
where I found myself,
scales aflame
on the saw teeth of sand,
body that once moved fluid,
now senseless, ever more
motionless,
sun overcame
my unwatered flesh and
eyes unshining,
life dimmed,
fish from water.

Lovely poem, all the right phrases to bring the subject to life. Simple and powerful and real. Nice work.

Yes, I just googled and found the Obscure Sorrows! I loved the poem - thought provoking and identifiable to all of us, one way or another.
