Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out. Proverbs 17:14 Every fool is quick to quarrel. Proverbs 20:3

True. Makes one think of "an eye for an eye", "forgive and forget" is always better. There is an ancient african proverb, "to forget a wrong is the best revenge".

In Cautionary Pictures 2) I mentioned the Bible proverb A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1 and of course there is Proverbs 25:21,22 If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. In doing this you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you.  – Meaning that doing good to those who do you harm can melt their hearts, and make them ashamed more than harsh treatment!

Though actually in this little one, I was thinking in general, as the Proverbs there state, of how easy it is to get angry about all sorts of things, and take offence, and say things that stir up a quarrel which is not easy to back away from I thought the Proverb about breaking a dam is a very telling picture!
