I'm Not A Princess.
I was sitting at my usual spot on my sofa, with my laptop on my lap, writing a story late one night, it was quiet and all the animals around me were asleep, it was then that I heard it, a strange low beeping sound.
I stopped typing and listened, it seemed that none of the animals were troubled by it, but I hadn’t heard this sound before. Then it stopped and I carried on typing, but soon it started again! What could it be? I listened carefully, it sounded now like it was coming from the left of me, that is where the kitchen is, but what in the kitchen could be making that noise? It was not the oven, nor was it the dishwasher, it was not the washing machine, nor was it the fridge or our new freezer.
It did puzzle me, could it be our boiler, was it on the blink? Oh no, I really hope not. But there it was again, beep, beep, beep, beep.
I was just about to get Paul to come and listen, as I knew it wasn’t just me who could hear it, when my daughter Meghan came downstairs, I said, to her, “I can hear a beeping sound,” She said, “It’s my EarPods, I’ve lost them and it is showing on my phone that they are downstairs.” I said, “I wondered what the sound was,” She walked past me into the kitchen, and she then went into the bathroom, I asked, “Have you found them?” She replied, “No,” I said, “I can still hear the beeping sound,” She replied from the kitchen, “I can’t.”
As she came into the Lounge, she then said, “I can hear it now,” It now sounded that it must be on the sofa with me, under the many cushions? We lifted the cushions next to me, nothing, I stood up and the noise changed to BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP! I was sitting on both of them.
Meghan explained, “While you were at work, I was sat there,” All I could say was, “I’m not a Princess.” She took them off the sofa seat, and went back upstairs. I just smiled to myself, and thought, how could I not feel that?
