From the station to your house, across busy roads I would race
Past conker trees, the Swimming Pool, quick on my toes,
Because you were my joy, and your love filled face.
The Steak and Kidney Pudding that took all day
I can see it now, and how the steam rose
From the station to your house, across busy roads I would race.
The old films in the afternoon, and boardgames we’d play
You took me to Bingo, and your Egg and Chips I loved most,
Because you were my joy, and your love filled face.
I’d take you to the Pictures, and our own sweets we’d take,
On rain sparkled nights, that left damp, smelly clothes,
From the Station to your house, across busy roads I would race.
Your memories of the War, my mother, those days
That led right up to now, and what made us close
Because you were my joy, and your love filled face.
The thing I recall is your love tinged with Grace
And a heart that never wavered despite life’s daily dose,
From the Station to your house, across busy roads I would race.
Because you were my joy, and your love filled face.
