Getting Away With It!!!

Since Covid SO many things have changed, some for better, some things have gotten worse. Customer Service now has no meaning, no one seems to care anymore.
Because of Covid, on-line shopping became big business. Post and delivery boomed!
In the office at work, one of the desks is near to the front door. Often the doorbell will go, I will go to answer it, and there is no one there, but at my feet is a parcel! How they did that is amazing, they must have thrown it and fled! Sometimes I will go out the front door to the out building and there it is a parcel just left on the doorstep! They couldn’t even be bothered to press the door bell or knock the door!
On a positive side, the door bell went this week, I went to the door and there was a delivery guy with a large takeaway, we hadn’t ordered it, when he showed us the address on the receipt it wasn’t even near the right address! In hindsight, we should have taken it and thanked him!
Paul smokes at the front of the house, so he misses nothing, and sees all that happens when he is at the door. He said, “A few days ago, the delivery driver, took the parcel next door, put it on the doorstep, and took a picture and left! He didn’t even knock the door.” As soon as he left, Paul went next door and told them. We talked about it, when he came back in, he said, “Some companies give their drivers very short time to drop off and go to the next delivery and they have no time to wait for people to come to the door, if they are behind schedule.” I said, “Yes, good point.” That will explain why many times my kids’ orders will be put behind the bin, for all to see, at the front of the house, and no doorbell used or knock at the door!
Meghan was expecting an important parcel yesterday, I was in, and made sure the telly was off and the animals they were all asleep. I wasn’t far from the front door, I wrote in my diary, I hadn’t done it for two days so I had a lot to write, then after that I read my Bible. When I went into the hall, there was the card to say they had been, and sorry we were out! WHAT?? I was not out, I was in, waiting for the knock at the door or the door bell, the 6 cats didn’t hear anything, nor did the large dogs, one who was sitting next me! The card said, “Will automatically post again tomorrow.” I thought I will be ready even more than I was yesterday!
From work, Meghan text me the time slot that her parcel would arrive, I replied, the telly is off, the animals are all cosy and asleep, the door is ajar, I am ready.” I then sent her a 10 second video, of the quiet Lounge, that myself and the animals were in and the door a jar.
Thirty minutes later, there was a knock at the door, the dogs went berserk, the cats scattered and fled behind the sofas! I got straight up, there was the postman, I said to him. “Were you the postman that left the note yesterday and didn’t ring the doorbell or knock the door? I went on, “Because I was in, just behind that door.” He said, “No it was my colleague, and she would have knocked the door, or rang the bell, I have known her for many years.” I showed him the card, and said, “The door bell needs to be used,” He rang it and said, “Does it work?” I said, “Yes and you can hear the dogs inside barking their heads off.”
He said, “Sorry about the parcel yesterday,” I said, “Thank you, I will pass that on to my daughter.”

Are you UK or US? I've seen
Are you UK or US? I've seen lots of porch pirate videos. It's big business in America, not so much so here. But we still have parcels left in your garden, and luckily, most of them are still there when we get in from work. It's only a matter of time before we lose something.
However .... no matter how badly staff are treated, surely they should still take pride in their work. Almost without exception, anybody coming to our house leaves the gate open. It's a simple latch gate. The dog goes mad if somebody comes to the door, so they instantly know we have a dog. We live on a busy main road ...and luckily we have a baby gate inside to prevent him from getting out. But isn't it basic manners and common sense to close a gate behind them? It annoys me.
Interesting piece, Maxine. Thank you.
