Cynthia. Part Two.

Yesterday, we took Cynthia to have her second needles. Like last time, she was on her best behaviour. It seemed such a long time between the needles, can’t wait for her to experience the great outdoors.
She is as it turns out to be a gaffer cat! She is definitely the new ‘boss’ the hierarchy within the six cats, has now changed. Her name, might be sweet Cynthia, but she is not sweet! She is not like any other cat we have ever had; it is almost like she doesn’t fit in. Maybe for such a big energetic cat, the home has become too small and she needs to let off steam outside to calm her down a bit, she is lovely when she is asleep!
The bill for her needles, was paid on her first visit, £95.00. It was a scarily high amount. Paul and I discussed about having her neutered, but I thought if for the cheapest, most basic thing that the vets offered cost £95.00, this I guessed it would cost about £500 to have her done! That is almost my wages for the month, so that is no way that was going to happen.
I could just imagine Cynthia outside if she wasn’t done, when she sees a boy cat she could say, “Sleep with me!” He’d be too frightened not to! And for the poor man who has his pet pigeons near our home, I don’t know how many birds he has left, but when Cynthia finds out where he lives, that number will go down rapidly!
When Meghan heard that I wanted to get Cynthia done, she said, “Mum I will pay for it.” That was nice to know, and then I had an idea, as Paul is retired, and I work part time, maybe Paul could ring, the Cats Protection and ask if they would neuter Cynthia for free or for a fee. I did have a quick look on the internet and it seems that the Cats Protection do not do that for free. I didn’t look in depth, I did think of the RSPCA, as they helped us before with our cat Hotel or Fat Bloke as Paul calls him. I will put them on the back burner for now.
I let Paul know before we went to the vets, that I would ask for a quote for getting Cynthia done.
At the vets, at the reception, I asked, “How much would it be to have Cynthia neutered?” She said, £185.00” I tried to keep my face, from showing my true thoughts. I think to them, it is like saying 85p, but to me it is like saying two grand! Two hundred pounds is a lot of money, trying to keep ourselves out of the red. Hearing prices like that, no wonder some people do cruel heartless things.
I remember thinking, when we were told it would cost £95.00 for the injections, that when Cynthia does go outside, she had better not lose a leg, for she would have to make do with three!
I haven’t told Meghan yet how much it will be, for first we will phone the RSPCA and the Cats Protection, and ask for advice, and if we can get it cheaper, then that would be good. If not then we will ask Meghan, if she still wants to pay for it.
Today is the day she will be going out for the very first time in her life, into the back garden, Paul will do the honours, and stay with her, until she is settled. x
