Pale green pixie caps
hanging bells
conceal
developing nuts
in hard case …
crack!
squirrel's teeth
or human tool –
deliver the
mature, delicious, nourishing
nut;

or

left to drop –
case softens, decomposes,
food feeds
inward growth –
embryonic root and shoot
elongate
become a little sapling
root anchoring it in the soil,
shoot rising for shade
and
new 
crop of nuts!

There's that connection with Nature again, Rhiannon. To look beyond the obvious and appreciate the cyclical aspect of something seemingly innocuous.
