Watching her leave the train
again
those long boots
gracefully stepping
down from the door
like the legs of some exotic bird
delicately dipping its toes
in a rush hour marshland
She keeps her nose to the wind
and affords the onlookers
a deep glance
at the outside stretch
of neck
just visible behind a loose raincoat collar
She walks through my world
at the same time
each day
and
I feel as though I know
exactly where she’s coming from
(The 17:05 from Brescia, platform 2)
But
where is she going?
that’s the best bit
no one without a key
to those locked
brown eyes
has any chance of knowing
