Classroom Panic Rooms or Bullet Proof Classroom Doors and Windows and Corridor blocking doors-

Events like Sandy Hook Massacre make me think that perhaps classrooms would benefit from having Panic Rooms that a teacher and pupils could lock themselves into in the even that a dangerous gunman gained access to a school. The only problem with this idea would be the cost of putting panic rooms in every classroom. Perhaps it would be cheaper to give every school bullet proof (armour plated on the inside perhaps) doors and windows.

Furthermore, if corridors could be blocked off by automatically activated bullet proof sliding doors, that would prevent a gunman from freely roaming round a school.

 

Sensory Multi-Tool For Blind People–

It seems to me that you could now create a portable sensory multi-tool (a swiss-army knife of sensors) that contains a proximity sensor; a motion sensor; a radar and a laser rangefinder that a person could switch between depending upon their needs

I think this would be better than just one tool because it would be able to cope with various different situations.

I also think that such a device would be like getting a second opinion. If a user wasn’t sure of something they could try a different sensor and compare their readings.

Perhaps even give it a portable satnav setting for navigating around unfamiliar places.

There’s so much technology that’s available that could be useful to blind people, why not combine it all into the ultimate tool of liberation.

 

Mine Field Clearing Ideas -

Concentric Circle Landmine Clearing Device-

1. This is a rotating machine gun that, every time its gun barrel turns 360 degrees, increases its range thus firing in ever increasing or concentric circles.
2. It could be dropped by a plane into the middle of a mine field and then be activated either remotely or by a timer and then, once its dropped,  begin firing and rotating so as to shoot any landmines, within a certain radius, round about it.
3. One could even make a non-bullet firing version; perhaps one with a continually lengthening laser beam or one that scatters explosive mine destroying pellets in ever widening circles.

Gyro Mine Destroyer- This is essentially a remote control mini-helicopter that only carries a camera; other landmine detecting sensors and a machine gun or bombs or flame thrower or some other landmine destroying weapon. You fly it, by remote control, seeing through the camera, over a minefield and shoot or bomb or scorch every inch until there can be no more landmines.

Laser Beam mine Clearer – You could use laser beams to detonate mines either a laser beam that sweeps back and forth or a rotating laser beam or perhaps a grid/web of laser beams spread out over the minefield or perhaps a mine-clearing robot with a laser at the front or, even better, perhaps a circular robot that sends laser beams, like spokes of light, branching out in every direction so that it increases its chances of hitting a landmine or perhaps a laser wheel dropped at the centre of the minefield that would rotate and sweep the whole minefield with laser beams like windmill sails.

Solar laser Beam Mine Clearer –

Perhaps in a hot country with a lot of sunlight, instead of a laser beam, you could focus and redirect solar rays and use them as your laser beam mine clearer.

Using Remotely Fireable Machine Gun (perhaps designed to fire special mine clearing pellets so that it could not be stolen and used as a weapon by guerrilla forces)–

This seems like a simple and practical way of clearing minefields. Have a machine gun with a camera on it that can be remotely operated from a safe distance (and thus operated by civilians) and just fire at the minefield, setting off the mines with bullets.

*Perhaps, so that it can be used as a weapon, it might also be a machine gun that doesn’t fire bullets but weighted pellets only designed to fall on mines and set them off with their weight; essentially a gun for spraying minefields with such weighted pellets*

Magnetic Dragging – A plane drops something that can be dragged magnetically (like a large wire net perhaps) and then using a powerful magnet drags it through the minefield.

Directed Sound or Underground Vibrations –

One could use directed sound and aim it at the mines, causing them to vibrate B) or possibly use some kind of pneumatic earth shaker that would cause vibrations that might trigger the land mines .

From a plane: Dropping water/ice/man-made hailstones or firing jets of water-

Water might, if enough is poured onto a minefield, build up enough weight to set of mines or what about dropping ice/man-made hailstones on the minefield or even spraying it with jets of water so that force will set off the landmines.

Dropping Quick Drying Cement on Minefields-

The cement builds up and hardens and the weight pushes down on the mines.

Flying over field with a speaker-

Perhaps one could cause the mines to vibrate by dragging a speaker, suspended, from a plane over the minefield.

Spray and burn- Spray a flammable liquid onto the minefield and then set fire to it so that the heat detonates all the mines.

Electric Fan Mine Clearing – Large fans blow material across the minefield.

Vertical take-off jet Mine clearer – What if vertical take of jets like those used on, for example, on harrier jump jets were blasted downwards upon a minefield by a plane? Would this create the necessary vibration or perhaps heat to set off landmines.

Nail-bomb mine-clearer – Nail bombs, when they explode, throw out lots of shrapnel and so perhaps nail bombs might detonate twice as many mines.

Sonic Boom Generator – The engine of a supersonic jet plane like a concorde or stealth bomber might create enough sound vibrations to set off landmines.

Old fashioned trebuchet/catapult – Just a very big catapult for raining down rocks upon a mine field; the appeal is that it might be a low cost way of clearing a minefield.

Diggerpult –

This idea makes use of the land round about the minefield. Basically it’s a bulldozer/excavator that digs up earth, compresses it into ammunition and then bombards the minefield with it like a catapult.

Underground explosions – Drill under the minefield plant explosives and detonate them to create vibrations that would set off the mines.

Gun-Plough- This is a type of vehicle with machine guns mounted at the front which shoots the ground infront to detoanate mines in its path whilst ploughing and marking a path behind; basically it shoots the ground ahead and moves forward, shoots the ground ahead and moves forward whilst, behind it, it drags heavy rollers that mark out a safe path. If you could make a very wide gun plough you could perhaps clear wide paths.

Mine-Clearing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle –

Rather than having to fly a plane in order to drop things on a mine field drop things from a remote controlled aerial vehicle.

Anti-Poacher Idea: Drones or Remotely Operated Gamekeeper Weapons to save endangered species–

The drones used by the military would make a perfect weapon against poachers who kill endangered animals. Perhaps the companies who make those drones should make civilian versions, not to carry bombs but just to fly over animal reserves so that game keepers can remotely survey Wildlife reserves for poachers.

Argument against this: One argument against this is that a helicopter would be cheaper and do much the same job but then how about using armed helicopters against poachers instead?

Also, if one could legally (as in many James Bond movies) attach a remotely controllable gun to a security camera and place such security cameras around a reserve this would definitely keep poachers away and save game keepers from having to constantly confront violent, armed poachers.

Perhaps the law might allow a stun gun to be mounted on a security camera although this wouldn’t be as useful against large groups of poachers or maybe a stun-net that can be fired over more than one poacher.

 

You might think this seems a bit harsh but, remember, as I said, poachers are violent gun wielding criminals, they’re not petty crooks.

 

General security idea: Animatronic visual deterrent/Scarecrow Security –

Here’s an idea using the technology already used by TV puppeteers like Jim Henson. Why not have animatronic security guards/guard dogs that look just like real security guards/guard dogs? They can be remotely operated by security guards inside a building. The security guards inside the building monitor the outside via security cameras and, if they see anyone coming near, they activate the animatronic security guards/ or animatronic guard dogs to move about and look frightening.

Sound ridiculous? Why? All security guards do, most of the time is stand around being a visual deterrent.

Better still you could have very basic security robots that just look scary and heavily armed but can’t really do anything; the illusion would be enough to keep people away.
