Joseph in Egypt – slave, falsely accused, imprisonment, ruler

[Continuing the hymn-for-Sundays series]

She tried to entice him to lie in her bed.
Though far from his people, enslaved, yet he said,
firm ‘No!’ to temptation from his master’s rich wife.
Still followed God‘s standards, and honourable his life.

His master had seen how reliable he was,
and saw how his Lord with him, blessed the whole house.
The woman, frustrated then lied and accused
and said he’d attacked, though her lust he’d refused.

Imprisoned, his God was still with him to bless,
the warden could trust him, God gave him success
and many years later, by Pharaoh was freed
to store the land’s food so in famine they’d feed.

The story of Joseph. Fascinating. Interesting yes Rhiannon. I wonder if Jesus was tempted by lust in the desert, I don't think so. And the six deadly sins? The ten commandments?

Very nice, good work but I think the lyrics are a bit complicated for singing.

Of Jesus' temptations as a man, we are just told 'For we do not have a high priest who is unable to symmpathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.' Hebrews 4:15 We are not told the detail of his temptations except those recorded in Matthew 4..

He clearly understands whatever problems we have and can help! Rhiannon

I love the story of Joseph, and have sung all the words in the play by Andrew LLoyd Webber and Tim Rice.  Your poem covers the story very well and in just a few lines.

Thank you, Jean. I'm always struck by how he perservered quietly and unostenatiously, trying to live right despite his circumstances, and trusting and honouring his God, and was trusted and liked by others for the way he lived. Quite a model for teenagers thrust away from home influences – I think he was about 17 when kidnapped and sent as slave. He had been a bit unwise in the way he related his dreams to his brothers probably, but he was quite young, and they later didn't accuse him of that. Rhiannon
