The year I entered adult life
Saturday job in Top Man's shop,
A bit too young yet, for a wife,
Heavy metal , it was the tops.
'Maiden, Motorhead, Judas Priest
the soundtrack of my Thatcher years.
My fave LP, 'Unleashed in the East'
soundtracked my early sips of beer.
Another school year, then we'd be free,
released into the big wide world,
Andy, Euan, Gerry and me,
Inseparable pals from days of gold.
The early working life for me,
selling clothes to trendy folk,
puffing fags and slurping tea,
everything back then smelt of smoke.
