When I was young fireworks was only in November.
Now fireworks are almost all year round where I live.
With Bonfire night, Halloween, and many festivals, it is now too much!
For those of us with animals, it is not a good thing.
Many of us have got animals, cats, dogs and rabbits and we see the suffering they suffer each year, we can’t explain to them, what is happening when loud BANGS go off!
It must be also awful for older people who have been in the war, the memories of it must scare some of the to death!
I am for fireworks displays and have been to many, when our children were young and growing up, attended my hundreds and thousands of people. They are always magical moments, with memories made with each other and for our kids. The car parks they are full, paid for, the fairs some of them on the ground, on the other side, they make money, the burger bars, and candyfloss, section they too are happy. At the end, the piece de resistance, the bonfire to warm us all and the huge fireworks display, is worth it all, along with the music in sync with it all. Some people have suggested silent fireworks; I don’t see the point of that.
Sadly, again last night there were lots of fireworks, one of our cats Hotel it really scares him, it is a shame, turning up the telly makes no difference, he is just petrified, he is our biggest cat and there is nothing we can do to help him. We have 6 cats and 2 dogs.
We have a cat walk, that we made so that our cats can come to the window and we can let them in from the fence, a plank of wood leads to our window. ideal if a dog is outside, and safe.
All our cats were in last night and the dogs too, then suddenly there was a cat, at the window! The cat looked like one of our cats Jonathan.
Paul wanted to let him in, I said, “Don’t, he is lost, frightened by the fireworks and he may not be done, he would mark everywhere.”
Some of the cats looked up at him, and Celtic the dog was excited! He although frightened, wanted to come in, through the open window, but was unsure as what to do. Paul went outside in the garden and picked up the cat and brought him into the house!
What a beautiful cat. It was only when he was inside, from been outside in the dark, could we see what he really looked like, he was a Smokey gray colour, big and healthy looking. He was a handsome looking cat.
Seeing the dog in the cage, unsettled him a bit, and so Darius who slept over last night stood in front of the cage, so Celtic could not see the cat, and the same for the cat.
Paul said, “Give him some food, so some pouch whiskers was put on a plate and given to him by the window, he just looked at it and wild at us. Meghan got her cat treats Dreamies, and put that to his mouth, he gently took them from her hand, showing he was very tame, and well looked after. Huge animal lover, Paul gently stroked him, and then after about 10 minutes, he ate his food.
Darius said, “Can we keep him?” I said, “No we already have 6 cats.” I said, “He is lost, and somewhere his family is worried, that he is lost and outside, in all this noise.”
He stayed with us for about 20 minutes; I took lots of pictures and videos of him.
He didn’t have a collar on, and we decided, if we didn’t have 6 cats we would have kept him.
We wouldn’t really keep him, for he clearly has a lovely family that loves him. But he would be made most welcome, to pop round anytime, for Whiskers and Dreamies.
I called him Smokey; Paul called him Jasper, other members gave him different names. Would love to know what his real name is, but he was unable to tell us. x

You and your family are very
You and your family are very kind Maxine.
I have a lodger cat who moved in with me when my own cat died last year. I think he spotted a vacancy. He lived over the road with a dog who chased him. His owners know that Albert has moved in with me, and they are fine about it. It is the ideal situation for me as I have his company and affection, and none of the responsibility. Although he does cost me a lot in food as he is very greedy !
My cat who died (at 18) was an ex-feral and not scared of anything. He would stare down dogs, and let kids poke him about. He loved being hoovered with the small brush. But he was terrified of fireworks, I've never seen anything like it. He was a big cat and you wouldn't believe the tiny spaces he could squash himself into to hide when the fireworks started. He was 7 by the time I trapped him, and got him neutered, and adopted him as a pet. I can only think that someone had shot at him in his previous life.
I remember you saying about this time last year that Paul used to give some money anonymously every Christmas to a young girl who lived near you. She didn't have a dad and lived with her mum. Then her mum was taken into hospital, and that was the last I remember. Did the mum come out of hospital ? I hope so.

You could take him to a vets
You could take him to a vets to see if he is microchipped, that would tell you where he lives. Or I believe that if you contact Cats Protection, to say you are trying to find out if he is a stray or not, they will come to your house with a hand held scanner. I expect that depends if you have a local branch or not.
The old fashioned way would be to put a collar on him with a disk with your name and phone number. If you get an irate phone call from the owner then at least it has worked ! ( I did try this once myself years ago. I didn't hear back from any owners, but I had a late night phone call from a vet - the cat had been run over and taken to the surgery, so the vet called the number on the collar. As no other owner claimed Simon cat I adopted him. )
I had one of my cats come home, long before microchips, with a note stuffed through her collar saying she was stealing their cats food !

I am glad you let him in :0)
I am glad you let him in :0) Wondering if perhaps, his people might have moved recently, and being in new territory, added to the fear of the noise, might have made him run too far to find his way back? Do you have a local facebook page you could put his photo on, or a local animal rescue page?
