Morning Glory
 

My day begins at 04:30 

with the sound of my son 
shouting for me. 
He thinks the time to get up is with
the sound of the morning chorus 
and likes to join in with his own song
of "mummy! Mummy! Mummy!"
On and on repeatedly.
Breakfast is breastmilk served in bed.
One side then the other,
then the other etc,
until he is satisfied I'm fully drained,
by which time my daughter has usually wandered in.
Wants a cuddle, squashed up together.
One either side, hands in my face, 
in my hair, legs all over the place.
When I can't stand 
the morning work out any more, 
I announce that it's time to rise
and we all wander down to the kitchen
where I prepare breakfast again.
This time cereal, pancakes, tea. 
I glance at the clock thinking
it must be 10am only to realise it's only 7 
and we have hours to organise 
and keep things as tidy as I can,
while they spread jam
All over the settee.

Lovely scene, for the onlookers! I do remember the earlier and earlier waking this time of the year, and unsuccessfully trying to black out the window. I think there was a tree with a blackbird singing each morning by the window also. I felt a bit resentful when the rest of the family complained, and I had taken the baby downstairs so that they could go back to sleep! Rhiannon

I black out his window. It's really dark in there - how do they know? It is the birds I think.

wow... I'd almost forgotten that... the simply pleasures of those times when tiredness gave way to the power of a hug from those wriggly alarm clocks..well done piece on treasure

Those hours remind me of milkman days. Wonderful times for your children. I still remember snuggling up with my mam and listening to the radio in bed. An old wireless playing The Four Tops and The Foundations. Great piece.
