Ode to a Lover
Her long greatcoat of red and white
Brushes the floor; catches the light
Likes to catch small things in flight
Her nails are sharp like scythes and tear
Skin that once showed no wear
Uses as a scratching post
All she touches; drives her host
Quite to distraction. Still, she is his darling
And, as a lover, constant - as Will (Carling)
Double-jointed, articulate
As a Chinese Acrobat; (Circus, State)
She is a Princess! She makes him wait
Then flings herself passionately on the bed, mad
As a milliner; poisoned by an owners' sad
Anthropomorphisms; Still Diana, archer, even on all fours
Can't compare with baggy drawers
Fluffy huntress, siren deadly
Sings to him in tiny calls, her Feline medley
