CHAPTER ONE
Jemma looked up at her mum. Her short, bobbed curly hair messed up and
tangled. Jemma just stared.
"Honey, don't ask." Jemma's mum muttered brushing her hair out of her
tired, droopy eyes. "okay, I won't ask, I'll force you to tell me."
Jemma said forcefully as her mum sat down.
Caitlin Ferry was Jemma's mum. Jemma's dad ran off when Caitlin found
out she was pregnant with her second baby.
"Honey, I'm fine. Just stayed up a bit late last night."
Caitlin then pushed Jemma out of the kitchen and closed the door. As
Jemma pressed her ear to the door she heard crying.
CHAPTER TWO
At school Jemma had no friends. Either they had drifted of or moved.
Ginny Kettle was the class;
prefect
swot
person everyone fancied
And basically everything a girl wanted.
She was trendy. Had the best looking boyfriend in the whole school. And
now she had Beth. Beth was Jemma's ex-best friend. One day when Jemma
was off Ginny sunk her teeth into Beth.
It just wasn't fair. Today was no different. Their teacher Miss
O'Connaly announced that morning that they would be doing History.
Jemma's worst subject. After lunch Jemma sat down next to Karl, a goofy
boy, that unfortunately Jemma seemed to always get partnered with. They
were doing the 2nd world war.
During the lesson Jemma said she felt sick. She then puked up. All over
her work, conveniently.
Jemma was sent home. As she walked home she bumped into this girl. A
punk, obviously. But a familiar punk. "Susie?" Jemma queried. "aye? Who
called my name?"
"me." Jemma said and Susie looked down at the girl. "Jemma Ferry? It is
you. Hi! Little sis!"
CHAPTER THREE
As the two girls sat down on the rough grass up near the church. The
nearest quiet place to be. "So, how's home?" Susie asked, "hell."
"really?" Susie asked as she pulled out a tightly wrapped parcel. Small
and tightly wrapped. "here. A present. Got them from Paris, apparently
all the fashion. I paid ?45.99 for these!" Interested, Jemma opened the
parcel. Inside were some gorgeous jewelled earrings. "Blue Topaz. Your
Birthstone. I've got some matching Sapphire ones." Susie remarked as
Jemma placed them through her ears. "And, I've got a few tickets for
Paris. There's this really swish hotel. Not very expensive either."
Jemma was overwhelmed. "I can't wait. Mum would really unwind."
"ah!" Susie said. "I've only got three."
"Well, what's the problem, it works out. Me, you and mum."
"no, it doesn't," Susie said guiltily standing up. "well, Jack's coming
too."
CHAPTER FOUR
"NO!" Jemma screamed. "Not Jack. I hate him. He's an ugly? idiot!"
Jemma was running now screaming back at her sister.
"I'll come. I'll come and get you. I'll kill mum too. May's well, seen
what she's done to you!" Susie called as Jemma ran round the
corner.
Panting Jemma hid. She could hear her sister swearing and
screaming.
Jack was Susie's boyfriend. She had been going out with him for ages.
Mum kicked her out when she found that Jack was abusing Jemma. Susie
ran off and they forgot about her. Then a few years ago she telephoned
to say that she was going back out with Jack.
What would mum say when she found out Susie and Jack were back? And
what did Susie shout, she'd be back. What if she came for Jemma and
killed mum? Jemma loved her mum. She couldn't live without her. She
couldn't live with Susie. Cos she lives with Jack. Then she heard her
sister's voice. She was talking to?.Jack. Sprinting down the path and
across the road Jemma made her way home. When she got home she found
her mum sprawled across the sofa with a bottle of beer in her hand. She
was sleeping. "mum," Jemma whispered, " Mum, Susie and Jack are back.
Susie said she, she said she was gonna kill you," Jemma started to
shake her mum and then she just sat up. "quick, honey. Get the stuff
you really really love. And go out the back." Caitlin grabbed the baby,
Baby Harriet. While Jemma pulled out two sleeping bags and headed for
the back door. But before she could even get down the stairs Caitlin
was screaming. Baby Harriet was crying, her head burrowed into her
mothers sweater. There in front of them was Jack and behind them was
Susie. They both were armed. Susie was holding a gun while Jack had a
knife. Scared and terrified Jemma huddeled up near her mum.
Susie and Jack closed in. Susie then spoke. "look at this place. And
you keep a baby here?" Susie patrolled round picking up clothes and
dumping them on the floor. Then she tipped the ashtray over and then
the table. Caitlin screamed. "Scared?" Susie asked dangerously. The
three of them edged back but with on glare from Susie they stopped.
"susie. Honey?" Caitlin started, "don't you honey me. Mum, I've
changed. I'm not pressed under your finger now, I'm free. I do what I
want. You can't make me stop by honeying me." Susie then came up close
to Jemma. "Come on Jemma. Come to Paris with me and Jack. You'll love
it. I'll get you some new earrings." Susie said but then,
"no, I don't want your stinking earrings. Anyway, I wasn't born in
November. I was born in May. Your not the best sister in the world.
Your just a piece of dirt that I can squish." Jemma shouted in her
sisters face. "Are you asking for me to shoot you?" Susie interrogated.
"'cos I will. If you annoy me. Now," Susie expounded, "Do you know why
I'm here?"
CHAPTER FIVE
Susie was getting angry. Jemma could sense it. Caitlin then handed
Jemma Harriet and stepped towards Susie. "look, I know you are big now
and are all grown up. I know you hate me for what I did. But why are
you going to take Harriet and Jemma's lives?"
"I'll do it because Jemma has your blood Harriet has your blood. And
anyone who has your blood must be like you, they are vermin and they
must die." Susie glared into her mothers eyes. "Well, then," Jemma
stood forward. "you must die too." Realising what she had said Susie
started to cry. "I just want to be doing the right thing, if you lot
are dead. I don't have to worry about you anymore."
"run." Caitlin whispered. And two seconds later, Jemma had taken
Harriet and gone.
Following a few minutes later came Caitlin with the sleeping bags and
her purse. But then came Susie and Jack. " Jemma. I love you. Take care
of Harriet. When she's big like you. Tell her about me." Caitlin said
kissing her daughters. "why? Where are you going?" but a few seconds
later that question was answered as a gunshot echoed out from the
alley. Jemma looked at Harriet and fled.
