As lush green buds break out on trees
So their roots dig deeper,
Ploughing the earth, and all is well
Such is life - reaping what cannot be sown.
As the branches frame the sky
So the leaves battle for life-light
Using what they do not deserve
Each is small and unimportant
Yet all form this mighty fiend.
As the bark resists all weather
So rocks are strangled within the soil
Crushed in the path of change
- Growth, killing others.
Alone one leaf lurks twixt twisted dead roots
Sitting in shadow and counting the days
One day, all leaves must fall
And all are equal in death.
