IRONIC
People superglue things together everyday. There are toy planes and
stuff for example, and other hobby craft things that need gluing, oh
yea, and then there are those little children who find Daddy's
superglue and glue their teddy bear to the fridge, or their sister to
the settee. When I was a kid I found my big brother's superglue and I
stuck some of my fingers together. However, I knew that should I have
to go and tell my parents then they would confiscate my cuddly toys so
as a result I spent hour and a half with a pair of scissors cutting
lumps of skin off, until I could finally pry my fingers apart.
But hang-on what does Superglue have to do with irony? Well, possibly
THE most ironic thing I have ever witnesses was the time that someone
Superglued a tube of Superglue to my English teacher's desk. Yep, they
in fact Superglued Superglue. And I couldn't stop laughing for weeks.
And for no reason too, cuz after all irony doesn't really make sense.
Try explaining irony and you just&;#8230; can't. You don't get
it&;#8230; its just inexplicable and yet hilariously funny.
The Americas for example: they just don't 'get' irony. I know quite a
few peeps from over the pond and they just don't get it. "Huh? What's
so funny?" they shrug and look confused, stare at each other and
whisper to each other - "is that the British eccentric thing or is she
just mad?"
No, I'm not mad - no, let me rephrase that - I'm not mad BECAUSE of
irony. It's just that from my experience only the British really
understand irony and its hilarity. It's mad enough on its own and you
either get it or you don't. It's like&;#8230;
"rain on your wedding day"
"a free ride, but you've already paid"
"the good advice, that you just didn't take&;#8230;"
and other lines from the Alanis Morissette song. But then, Alanis
Morissette is from over the pond -
- it's that ironic?
