Naptime

I close my eyes in a dark womb place
I know nothing of the activities around me
I close my eyes in a small yellow room
With ruffled curtains and toys and dolls
I am in wonderment of the world around me
I close my eyes the night before Christmas
I am trying to wait for Santa
I close my eyes in a friend's house
I am giggling too much to sleep
I close my eyes in a pitched tent
I am listening to the wild sounds around me
I close my eyes in a college dorm
I am in control of everything around me
I close my eyes in a boy's bed
I am excited and nervous
I close my eyes in my first apartment
I am awakened by the neighbors fighting
I close my eyes in the honeymoon suite
I am exhausted from the wonderful day
I close my eyes in our apartment in a new city
I am annoyed by the neighbor's music and the kids in the pool
below
I close my eyes in a hotel room in the midst of relocating to a new
state
I am anxious to get there
I close my eyes in our first house
The room is silent, the wind chime sings
I am relaxed
Inside my body, in a dark womb place
She closes her eyes
She knows nothing of the activities around her.
