Sky Watching

I saw the blue sky through the green leaves
like a geographical kaleidoscope,
a fractal of the Earth seen from space.
As I lay in the grass,
feeling it tickle my bare legs
I stared into the unfathomable blue
crossing my eyes and seeing it all blur together
like shards of stained glass.
The thin white trail of an aeroplane
cut through the watery blue like a ribbon
and I followed it with my eyes across the sky,
waving to the people inside
and wondering if they had seen me.
