let your finger stumble
along your corrugated gum line
the border into which the dead are embedded
my thumb just fits in the lizardy
sticky roof of my mouth, where taut skin is painted
like a primer on clean bone
my heart is probably tight like this
no wonder it fidgets
once something goes in, it never gets out
