Unrequested Edification

with a single quiver of hand,
and the bridled sincerity kept to her heart; cherished and protected
as, if it were to escape, it could not be reclaimed;
she waved farewell
a gentle and periodic oscillation in her posture; from left to right, right to left
she stared bleakly onward
walls, in their uninspired, dreary stance, dampened her spirit;
they stood firm, overcasting the day
while she drifted
unrequested edification, it seemed
yet where was the pith she was looking for?
was this not meant to be accompanied by some greater feeling? she thought;
where was heartache; self-remorse?
where was misery?
all the while she walked; obdurate
as the worn out memories which could have been
followed, and echoed through the broken corridors;
they, too, waved farewell
