Pond Rescue

Teacakes, biscuits, coffee and Kiplings
Had been placed on the table to serve our guests.
The tea pot, china and porcelain
Bearing pictures of Brambley Hedge,
In wait for the family of my sisters' friend
To arrive at the house.
A fine day it was and the garden was alive,
Whilst the sun shone through the window, to provide
The last needed aspect, of a tea house room.
One hour later and the goods now consumed,
For a minute there by the pond I stood.
Staring at water as deep as two spades.
Two and a half metres long, one and a half metres wide.
When a sudden gasp for breath, from the water came about,
A face attached to material that I had been staring at,
Which I thought was a bag but was infact a coat.
There a four year old boy had emerged from below.
He must have been under for a minute I should think.
On the pond I had been staring, and not seen a thing.
I grabbed his coat and heaved him up.
One big heave and I had him out.
Dragged out as I had once been,
Standing by the deep end and diving in.
Too scared to tell the instructor I could not swim.
Staying under water unable to climb up,
Until a steady hand pulled me to the top.
